NAIT Photography Graduate Showcase

Hello everyone!

It's been quite a while since I last posted. I just got back from my work experience in Toronto on Saturday and I've been busy wrapping up my last few projects at school. Graduation is almost here! Yikes! It's very exciting but also a little bit nerve-wracking. I really enjoyed my two years at NAIT and I will miss seeing my school friends everyday.

Our class is holding a Graduate Showcase this Friday. It will be in room H-005 of NAIT and will run from 2:30-5:00. It's at an odd time but if you happen to be free and want to check out some great portfolios, please swing by! Hope to see you there :)

You Got KARSHED!

I was assigned to shoot a portrait in the style of a famous photographer and I chose Yousuf Karsh. If you are not familiar with his name, you probably are familiar with some of his work. He is probably most well known for his photograph of Winston Churchill, but he shot many iconic photos over his career. Some of the really well-known ones are of Audrey Hepburn, Martin Luther King and Albert Einstein. Visit www.karsh.org to see for yourself. Hopefully I did Karsh justice with my portrait.

Child Portrait

Last weekend I did a photo shoot with my nephew, Elijah. We had a pretty good time, despite him having a nasty cough. He danced and showed off his karate moves. I managed to get a bunch of nice shots. I couldn't decide on my favourite, so I ended up compositing five together.

Editorial Portrait with Sonny

Recently I had the pleasure of shooting a photograph of Sonny Davis, an athlete in training for an amazing cross-Canada marathon. On May 30, 2010 Sonny will begin his journey.

Check out Sonny's website at www.marathonoffreedom.com. His story and mission are really inspirational.

Big thanks to Kinsmen Sports Centre for the use of their facility and to Gord for his assistance on the shoot.

Yesan Ham Photography's First Blog Entry

Hello and welcome to my new blog!

My name is Yesan and I am a photographer in the Edmonton area. I have been studying photographic technology at NAIT for the last two years and will very soon be a graduate. I really enjoy shooting commercial style portraits and still life. I have a lot of new (and not so new) work that I'd like to share with everyone. I hope you enjoy it.

Today I shot an image for a self-promotion piece. The goal was to incorporate my logo and to create a bright and pleasant atmosphere in the photo. I took advantage of the natural light, which is pretty rare for me as I tend to be a studio flash kind of person. I really enjoyed using the window light today, so I think I'll practice using available light more often.

Special thanks to Gord Heatley (friend and fellow-photog) for helping me with the shoot.
